Edge 1030 plus & Specialized dual power meter

Hello, does anyone have pair the edge 1030 plus with specialized dual power meter? Does it work fine? I am asking because i had major connection -dropouts- issues with 1030.

Thanks

  • Does it support BLE?  That'd be an interesting test.  Yes, I understand you just want to know if anyone else has seen it, but by doing a little testing and posting a file with the drops, it could help to understand what might be going on here.

  • It supports BLE but 1030 doesn't give you the option to choose connectivity. It will always connect with the power meter with ANT+ because it suppose to be more stable connection. It's not like the Garmin vector that shows up like Ble & Ant+. By the way, i don't have any more the 1030 and that's the reason i have open that topic, because i am interesting to buy the 1030+. I don't want to buy a new device that doesn't work properly with my power meter again.

  • I have the Specialized dual power cranks and the 1030+.  When I was using the 1030 I'd get frequent power drops.  No problem pairing but it would drop power and all data from the power cranks from time to time.  I haven't had enough rides with the 1030+ to say one way or the other.  I'd be happy to provide my fit file for someone to look for drops if they want.  As far as pairing or connecting I've not had any issues.  Here's a link to a google drive file from my ride tonight.  Power Cranks & 1030+ Fit File

  • Thanks for your reply. I was having with 1030 so many dropouts in my rides at least 7-8 times per ride and duration from 1sec to minute. I test the power meter as i am saying above with wahoo elment bolt and with my fenix 6x and i didn't notice any issues. I am interesting to buy the 103+ but i am sceptical because the issues i used to have. I open your ,tif file but i couldn't spot if the zeros in the power graph can be from connection dropouts or its just stop pedaling. Have you ever notice anything familiar with my description as you ride with the + ?

  • the signal strengths look very weak for PowerCrank (is it GEN1?) and for Varia also. There are a few longer zero watt parts but i suppose these are coasting sections but i spotted sections where there are real dropouts also. There is no heart rate data which could help deciding it better .

  • No idea of the version of PowerCrank that I have it came on my Specialized Venge that I purchased new in late fall of 2018 which I think would make it a 2019.

I don't ride outdoors with HR.  The radar has disconnected several times during a ride both with the 1030 and 1030+.  The radar is the newest version and is only about 1 month old.  I also had the radar before that looked the same but didn't have BT and it would disconnect from time to time as well.

I think the 0 data is still connected in the file.  When the data field goes completely blank is when I think there's a drop.  There are gaps too when I stop and then start moving again.  I don't think those are drops either.

  • B.Petal - Hi, I just ran across this post and have the same exact issues with my dual sided power meter/Garmin 530. I have a 2018 S-Works Tarmac that came with a power meter made for Specialized by 4iii. I receive frequent drops both indoor and outdoor.

Has your issue been resolved? I sent a bunch of data to Garmin following their Beta worksheet.

  • I have a latest Venge S Works with latest Power cranks. Funnily enough, and with my other 4iiii cranks, I had drop outs on my 830. I tried 1030 plus and so far seems stable.

  • Hi, I also have the same problem and it's getting worse!! Today, I rode and had so many dropouts and also was reading super high (wish I had those numbers, but had to delete that part of the ride, which really sucks). I just moved from Wahoo to Garmin's ecosystem (got the 1030+, FR745, HRM Pro) and it's driving me crazy!!! I did not had any trouble with wahoo!! I also see that the HRM drops a few times, but not as much as the Specialized PM. My rear Varia also sends me many false positives; though, with Wahoo it worked perfect. Getting crazy here and about to buy a Quarq PM for Specialized cranks. Hope there's a solution soon...

  • I em experiencing dropouts too. Not only with my Sworks power meter, but with kickr and Assioma Duo. Heart rate freezes/drops too. On older and newest firmeware. Resetting device didn’t help.
No problems or dropouts on wahoo bolt/roam.
