Importing courses into NewFiles

When I load a GPX, TCX, or FIT course (e.g. from RideWithGPS) into Garmin>NewFiles and eject the USB connection (I am using a Mac), the display flashes, the unit restarts, but no course appears in Saved Courses.  Sometimes unexpected (perhaps working files) appear in Garmin>NewFiles or Garmin>Courses.  But on the next try, they seem to get cleaned up.  The process of importing courses to the unit seems to work correctly about 1 out of every 5 or 6 tries.  Any suggestions how to get this to work reliably?

Many thanks Microkid, that's exactly what happened to me.  That seems to eliminate the possibility of a hardware problem on my unit.

If I may ask:  Did you also see the problem in the GPX file named "Chrome"?  The two files on Dropbox are the same route, but one was downloaded from RWGPS on Safari, and the other was downloaded on Chrome.  For me, downloading the file on Chrome works when I import into the 1030+, while doing the same from Safari doesn't.  I also asked the same of the guys at RWGPS.

Also, I'm curious - what did you do to fix the file online?

  • I see no problem in the GPX-Files you put in your dropbox. And diff of both files show nearly nothing (only name and export time).

I could import both files in Garmin Connect Courses https://connect.garmin.com/modern/courses on my Mac.  No Error Messages. From there you can send your route to your Garmin Device (with Garmin Express or Garmin Connect mobile).

  • I used https://www.gpsvisualizer.com/. I imported the GPX and thex exported it again as GPX. The result would import fine to the 1030+
