Pairing failed (constant)

Hello,

I've just received my 1030 Plus and am attempting to pair it to my OnePlus 5T Android phone (running Android 10)

I connected the Edge to my Garmin Express and updated to 2.30 already

Pairing fails every time I try it - and (as a helpdesk troubleshooter for PCs myself) I'm pretty sure I've tried all the fixes from other threads about BT pairing troubleshooting.

It fails at about the 25% mark on the status bar on the "Pairing completing" screen. It seems to have already added it to the phones BT device list (as I typically go back and forget it each time)

Retrying yields no different result.

Tried:

Powering off both devices

Powering off BT on each and both devices

Forgetting the Edge in the BT device list

Full factory reset on the Edge

Turning off wifi and NFC on the phone leaving only BT on.

Many repeats

Thought a thread might be the next best place to start as I'd really like this to work out as my Edge1000 is really on it's last legs. (and I go back as far as the Edge 705 - in orange and blue!)

  • Thanks - that's very helpful to know and how I should proceed.

I just got mine today. It refused to connect to my iPhone 11 Pro using a fully updated Garmin Connect. I connected via cable to computer and Garmin express updated firmware to 2.30. After this I was able to pair with my iPhone and thought all is well.

Did a quick ride and unit crashed 29min into the ride and rebooted itself. Fortunately I was almost done anyway. After getting back home, no auto sync, no wifi sync, manual sync through iPhone app did not work, forcing an upload through unit did not work. Only thing that worked again was connecting via cable to computer and my ride was finally synced.

However, now it refuses to connect to my iPhone anymore. I've reset the device, I've rebooted my phone, I've deleted Garmin Connect and reinstalled it. I've removed any and every Garmin device from my bluetooth list. I've tried to have Garmin Express update rest of it (it constantly keeps saying there's map updates available, spends a while updating them, and then says the same thing again).

Pretty much ready to send the unit back at this point.

  • I’m afraid appears to be so typical of Garmin new release devices. It seems to be more luck than anything to get it to function properly. As well as this issue on the 1030+, I remember exactly the same issues on 1030. Garmin don’t seem to learn or test properly. Having said that, when they work, they are great. But the hassle and ‘luck of the draw’ factor are a real turn off. My local bike shop even said they are going to stop selling Garmin devices given the amount of returns (and obvious hassle from customers) they get. Such a shame as really great product when you can get the damn thing to work.

  • Hello. Same for me, a one + 5 with android 10 and impossible to connect in BT

I was able to get it fixed, thanks to other topics in this forum.

I uninstalled garmin connect and installed an older version:

fine for now and hopefully garmin fixes the issue in future updates of the connect app.

  • I had tried this earlier and it did not work for me. Can I ask what phone you were connecting it to?

OnePlus 5 connected to a Garmin edge 1030

  • Thanks. I'm trying this with the 1030 plus and my guess is an older version of Garmin Connect doesn't know how to deal with that (compared to a 1030). I'm also running the One+ 5T rather than the straight 5 model.

  • I tested with version 4-22-1 and it works with the One + 5. Thanks for the tip. When the application starts, garmin connect says that for the edge 1030+ you must update the application but you can bypass the message and make the pairing.

  • OK, you get some kind of prize. :-)

I'd tested it with 4..22.1 based on something I found and as mentioned it didn't work. But I misread your post as 4.21.1 and went off and tried that one - and bingo! It actually paired. It's not imported the profiles and sensors but that's another story. And obviously I can't update my Garmin Connect for at least a few months for fear of breaking it - but thanks!

PS I *wasn't* asked to update the application. Oh it's such a mess. No wonder Garmin don't troubleshoot this with us. :-/
