First ride report

First ride with my freshly arrived Edge 1030 Plus. I had the Edge 830 prior to it, which I returned for a refund die to it losing satellite connection concurrently.

Happy to report I had no such issues on my 22k ride:

Very pleased with it so far: the display is very easy to read and coming up with a round trip was very fast. Navigation was great too- made even easier by the loud! beeps before a turn.

The 1030 Plus successfully adapted to a closed off road and rerouted me on an alternative route instead of insisting on me to make a U-turn, as was the usual behaviour of the Edge 830..

No sensor dropouts either: I had the following sensors connected:

-HRM Dual and my Favero Assioma pedals

  • One question: is it possible to get turn beeps via connected bt headset like as on a Fenix 6xPS?

  • I believe so, yes. Will make sure to test it though.

  • Just an offtopic question: why do You have so imbalanced legs (~56-44- 57-43)? Had You any surgery on right leg/side?

  • LOL that;s a bit of an inappropriate question, isn't it?!

No, never had such a surgery- I presume that this has a lot to do with left vs right handed (and therefore, which is your stronger leg that you push more with); I am sure this is also about how well your pedals are fitted.

I didn't do it myself but can easily imagine that my Assioma Duo pedals are not fitted to perfections.

  • While I don't have the E1030plus, non of the edge devices have music capabilities, thus no way to connect BT headphones to them.  So I don't see how it would be possible to get turn beeps in the BT headset like on the Fenix 6.  I know that recent edge devices gave the ability for audio prompts but that is only good for speed/pace and HR announcement.  That does work over a BT headset paired to the phone.

  • I remember reading someplace that the turn names can be spoken through connected phone app (GCM), but never was interested enough to test that out, or even try to figure out how to do it. A BT earphone/bone induction helmet paired to the phone might do the trick, if indeed there’s an option to have the GCM app speak directions through phone.

  • If audio prompts are enabled in GCM then the turn instructions are read out by the phone.

  • I had my first ride, also coming from 830. Amazing device, I had strong rain for half an hour, worked flawlesly, the new sound alerts are great (I use Varia Radar), smartphone and sensors connections are rock solid and the battery consumption is amazing: started my 3 h training with 96% and finished with 87%, with all sensors including Radar and smartphone and with backlight on Auto! Amazing so far!

  • I asked it because it is not normal (i have seen only 1 man in my life with such an imbalance, that guy had broken ankle with only 10% movement range...), if You didnt have any problem with your legs than could be 2 options: #1 wrong bike fit, the saddle position is too high and/or cleat position issue. # something wrong with one of the pedal, the left is overreading or the right is underreading somewhy. Both options are problematic and should be solved (for your knee/hip/joint's health or for realiable data)

Sorry for the question, i just would like to help avoid problems for future.

  • No worries. From my run today: it's definitely my bike setup

    49.5% (left) vs 50.5% (right)
