Any major issues with Garmin's new magnet less speed/cadence sensors?

I just ordered a set of magnet less speed/cadence sensors to mount on my bike and use with my Garmin 800.

Have any of you experienced any major issues (or any issues) with the new sensors?

Let me know what your experiences have been.

Thank you.
  • Try using other rubber bands or zip ties then. So long as it stays on, it will be fine. When the original rubber band on the sensor on the crank arm of my mountain bike broke, I just used a band I had left over from a Garmin quarter turn mount, and then put a zip tie around the sensor just to be sure. There's nothing special about the supplied bands.
  • Hi, thanks for the reply.

Of the 3 of them, the biggest one still doesnt fit. already tried, seems very fit... but i havent tried forcing it due to fear of damaging the band.

You will not damage the bands, but the tabs may break off if they are on too tight.

The suggestion of using another band, plus a zip tie is a good one.
  • thanks 1BOTTECCHIA6 and SCHINDER.. will do that.
  • Speed sensor (magnet less) inaccurate and now, not working

Does anybody had erratic speed readings and manage to fix it? I´m on my second brand new magnetless speed sensor and still cant get stable speed readings.

Right now i not sure if im extremely unlucky or garmin products are poorly manufactured. Would be nice if some garmin support specialist really answer everyone in this foruns

Same issues here, speed jumps around at steady state, has for some time. Now it has stopped working completely. Have tried re-pairing but it now appears to be dead. The cadence sensor still works. Will be interesting to see how they support this issue. You'd think accurate speed sensor would be the most basic, simple thing. You'd think.
  • Pairing Edge 800 with new speed and cadence sensor

I have a problem with pairing may edge 800 with the new speed and cadence sensors.
My edge 800 works well with the old gcs10 sensor on my road bike. Also the new speed and cadence sensors work well with my edge 25 on my mtb. Now I want to use both the edge 25 and the edge 800 on my mtb, so I need to pair my 800 (new bike profile) with the new sensors. No matter which sensor combination I try (speed and cadence, speed/cadence, speed alone, cadence alone), my edge 800 does not serach and does not find any sensor.
Does anyone have a suggestion what to do? (Entering the sensor-ID's is possible, but I do not know the sensor-ID's)
  • Speed sensor too loose

My speed sensor is too loose on my rear hub and even more loose on the front hub. Why is it i get 3 choices for the cadence sensor but just one choice for the speed sensor?

Does anyone have recommendation to securing my speed sensor to my hubs if they do not have enough girth for the band that comes with the sensor? It must be easily removed since I would like to house it on my rear wheel normally but maintain being able to switch it from TT bike to road bike.

Also, GSC-10 Is a no-go. I have two but they interfere with my vectors causing power/cadence drops.
  • Cadence sensors not detected since software updates?

Since updating both my Edges (800 and 1000) to the most recent releases, neither will detect the cadence sensors on any of my bikes (two roadies, one mtb; the sensors are all speed/cadence sensors and comprise 2 X GSC 10s - on the mob and one of the roadies, and 1 x duotrap on the other roadie).

The fact that I have multiple bike set-ups and multiple Garmin sensor set-ups, and recently changed the batteries on all of them, thinking that perhaps that was the problem – to no avail, left me with only one probable cause: the latest Garmin software updates. Both of which I did in the last few weeks, when the problem then began.

    Anyone else having similar issues?
  • Bike cadence sensor with FR920XT after software update

Please advise if faced same problem

Was running Garmin Bike Speed and Cadence Sensor 010-12104-00 (GAR200631) magnetless. Everything was fine. But now Cadence is sensor is detected but not showing data. I think it is because of software update.

Didn't update my FR 920 XT for long time, so I don't know what software was installed. After update FR 920 FT to 6.20 speed sensor is OK but cadence is not showing. Sensor Status - working. Battery is fresh. Led is working. Tried to update to 6.26Beta, restore to default etc. Doesn't help.
When I shake the sensor in my hand occasionally it show some data, but it is not working on bike.
  • Shipped w/a dead battery

I was having trouble getting the magnet-less sensor to connect. After about 40' of troubleshooting I replaced the battery. Fixed!!

Have you since fixed the problem and if yes how? I have tried all possible solutions given here on the Forum but without success. This included different wheels, different bike, new chain, new cassette, two different units (Edge 520 and Forerunner 920 XT) etc. Also, two other people I know who use the same speed sensor (one with an Edge 520, one with an Edge 1000) all had exactly the same problems. We have all stopped using the speed sensor now and use GPS speed instead as the speed sensor is useless and only adds extra weight.
I have send the speed sensor to Garmin already and was helped really well by the support team. However, their desk tests showed up nothing wrong with the speed sensor and so they send it back to me with the request of reporting any future problems and sending them the corresponding .FIT files. The first ride I did with the sensor immediately had false readings as well as the second and third ride after which I went back to GPS speed only. I have send them back the .FIT files of these activities about one month ago but since then the, previously very helpful, Garmin support has gone completely silent...?
I don't see how of the only three people I know who use this sensor all three have the exact same problem (or to put it differently I don't know anyone in real life with a properly working speed sensor) while here on the Forum (almost) everyone's problems with the speed sensor seem to have been solved? Could it be location, living close to the equator or climate, very hot and sunny almost all the time? I don't know, I'm not a scientist but I suppose that Garmin might have a few on the pay roll. Please advice I like to have a more accurate speed sensor where GPS tends to auto pause at extremely steep and very slow climbs. Anyway, it should really just work, anywhere!
