New speed sensor - slightly erratic readings

Was out on a fairly steady paced ride at the weekend and I noticed that my speed reading on the Garmin 810 seemed to be jumping by around .5 mph every second. I thought that I was cycling at a fairly consistent pace, so it seemed rather erratic. I don't recall such significant and regular jumps in speed using the old sensor.

Does this seem normal behaviour?

It's installed on the back hub of a standard wheel (Mavic Krysium).
  • That sounds more like what I used to see when using GPS as the speed source. Are you sure that your sensor was connected? My magnetless sensor on my MTB has eliminated those problems. It's very steady even at low speeds.

The other thing you can try is to move it to the front hub if you can. Maybe there's enough stuff (you, water bottles, etc.) between the sensor and the 810 to cause some problems.
