Loss of distance when speed and cadence is activated?

I installed a Duotrap speed and cadence sensor on my Madone 5.9. I've previously used the Garmin 910 to track my speed and distance, and it has proven quite reliable. When I activate the speed and cadence sensor I lost about 45
% of my distance. I have friends with 910's along on the ride which is what I compare to. The cadence seems to be fine, but the speed and distance is way off. Any thoughts??

Is the value for the wheel size correct on the 910?

Duotrap also losing distance when activated on Edge 520

When new Duotrap was installed on my Domane S5 my speed and distance were way off. I noticed that if I stop peddling for a while (perhaps 10 seconds) the speed would go back to something normal. If I start peddling again, the speed drops dramatically. It seems odd that stopping peddling reports a higher speed while starting peddling reports a lower speed, and this is regardless of flat, uphill or downhill travel.

When I aligned the spoke / speed magnet and the crank cadence magnet per the instructions the problem was solved. I have been trying to attach an image that may help others but am having difficulty with that.
