Recently, navigation on the Edge 1000 stopped working because I don't see any maps on my device. I just updated the maps, but without success. Any ideas?

Wow, an Edge 1000 that is still working! Many of us who had them had the power on/off button fail years ago.
Did you use Garmin Express to do your map update? What happened when you tried it? Did it start to update and fail? You might be short on storage. First, back up your Edge 1000 to your desktop / laptop computer. Then, try deleting ride files to get more storage available. If that isn't enough, delete your old maps before trying to update. If that still doesn't work, do a "factory reset" and then try to update maps.
Recent map files are larger, because climbing information has been added.
If none of this works, contact Garmin Support and see if they have a solution (older, smaller map files), or if they will offer you an update to the 1040 or 1050 at a discounted price. If that's too expensive, look for used 1030 Plus or 1040 models on eBay or Amazon, etc. The 1030, 1030 Plus, 1040, and 1050 are all pretty advanced over the 1000 - better battery life, more features, etc. The 8xx series are great, too.
