Older Ant + cadence and speed sensor are they compatible with Vivoactive 5 watch

I have the old version of speed and cadence sensors that are ANT + but  version '1'  but cant get them to pair with My Vivoactive 5 watch , should they be compatible , Garmin support team dont seem to know the answer?
