HRM-Dual firmware update - doesn't happen

I have two of these sensors. Garmin says that there is no way to manually update the firmware and that it happens automatically via the device they are connected to. But it doesn't. Both connect seamlessly and reliably to my Edge 840, and function well. One has version 2.10, the other has 2.50.

I want the latest firmware in order to have them connect to my Strava phone app when I am using it for walking. The monitor with 2.50 will connect, the other one is not recognised by the phone or the app. I have tried forgetting and reconnecting them; batteries are fine. Suggestions?

I am also interested to hear about any generic advice for updating firmware on sensors of all types. I have an RTL 515 radar and Rally power meter pedals - updates often don't happen easily, I typically get numerous prompts to update, which I accept, and nothing happens.

This is version 2.50. Place it in the Garmin\RemoteSW folder. Make sure that the HRM has a new battery in it before trying the update.

If that does not work you will need to contact Garmin Support.

Hi aweatherall, super helpful of you to provide the update. I followed your instructions and rebooted the 840, but the firmware has not updated on the HRM. Perhaps 840 will provide a prompt in days to come ... Thank you

I wonder if the HRM strap is not actually the model you think it is. If you are willing to share the settings.fit file or one of your activity files when using the HRM I can check the model.

Is it connected to the Edge 840 though ANT+ or BLE?

From my experience (Edge 1030 Plus, f6X, f5+) the ANT+ connection appears to be the preferred connection for updates to dual protocol sensors.

Correct. The Edge will only update Garmin sensors over ANT+.

I posted a reply earlier but it has disappeared. I think you are right. The one that has 2.50 is HRM-dual but the one with 2.10 is an older 'Soft Strap Premium Heart Rate Monitor'. Perhaps the latter one is not compatible with 2.50. Would this mean it will not connect to an iPhone / Strava app via bluetooth?

Depending on the model it may not have BLE support.

If you are willing to share and activity file that was recorded with that HRM I can unpack the file and find the model number.

I seem to have the same issue.
Have a HRM Dual that is stuck on Firmware 2.10. The sensor clearly says HRM Dual and has a bluetooth logo on the back.

Tried to put your update into the RemoteSW folder on my Edge 530 but the update is not triggering...

Any ideas how to manually start the update now that it is on the device already?
