Was “new” speed and cadence sensor 2 previously used?

My daughter just purchased a speed and cadence sensor 2 from Amazon. After using them the she noticed a couple hundred miles worth of rides show up in her app for the month before she bought the sensors. Is this normal from factory testing or does this indicate that they were previously used?

The sensors don't store any information!! They purely send either revolutions (cadence) or speed to the Edge device. They don't even have a memory so no way can they record any rides!!

I am not sure that is entirely correct. In the review at https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-b9lTGp9yHw he says that it records speed and distance data when not connected and uploads it later when you connect. The data in my daughters app had to come from somewhere so I tend to think he is correct and it does record some data.
