Garmin Cadence Sensor 2 too slow with Edge 500

Greetings everyone, 

I've had no problems pairing my new Garmin Cadence Sensor 2 with my Edge 500; however, I find the cadence readings are delayed long enough that the readings are not accurate. Is this a known issue? Does the unit work better if its further out on the crank arm, or more near the center?
