Garmin quarter-turn mount incompatible between devices.

I have a Forerunner 310XT with the quick release kit installed. I have a quarter-turn mount installed on the handlebar of my bike, so I can easily mount the watch on the bike. So far so good. Now, recently I bought an Edge Explore. Before purchase I tried to verify if it utilises the same type of mount, so that I can mount on the same mount either the FR310XT or the Edge Explore. It turns out that it's kinda the same mount, only rotated 90 degrees, which means that however I install the mount on the handlebar, one of the units will be rotated 90 degrees. This sucks. I am deeply disappointed by this unjustified difference, because this means I have to use 2 mounts to interchangeably mount different units, taking up precious space on the handlebar.
