Can GSC-10 Be Paired as Separate Speed and Cadence Sensors?

Hi,

i have GSC-10 combination speed/cadence sensor (I know, who still hangs on to a 10 year old stuff, right) that I’d like to pair as separate sensors so that I can disable cadence when I need to.

i seem to remember that on the Edge 500 I was able to “see” it both as a combination and individual sensors, but I can’t confirm it at the moment. On the new edge 1030 though, I can only pair it as a combination spd/cad sensor.

Does anyone know if it is possible to pair it as separate sensors?

Nope. It is combined sensor and needs to be paired that way. It will not show under the individual speed and cadence searches.

Why do you need to disable cadence?

You can just remove the cadence magnet if you wish to stop receiving cadence data, but I'm unclear why you want to do that.

Possibly due to a power meter with built-in cadence?

If you have power meter that is sending cadence and torque so that the head unit computes power then that will take priority over the data from a separate cadence sensor.

Sorry, somehow never got the “new answer” notifications. As Bike_John mentioned, the power meter has a cadence sensor, and I’d rather not spend money buying a new speed sensor.

Thanks aweatherall. I’ve seen confusing posts that reported messed up ride uploads, so I wanted to just get rid of it. For now, I’ve just removed the whole thing.

I know this is from 3 yrs ago BUT...doing a static bike ride on 24in wheel shopper bike on a set of rollers and struggling to pair Garmin bike sensor (GSC 10 - new correct battery fitted ) with an Edge 1030 which I see you say is possible - on the garmin site you can calibrate the speed sensor 2 for a 24 in wheel but my sturmey archer gears are 63mm dia and speed / distance would be way out. Not bothered about cadence. Tried selecting 'all sensors' and also 'speed and cadence' without luck - reset red followed by green ( so battery works ) and spinning the cranks while trying to pair - nothing! HELP if possible
