Garmin 64s new non-magnetic speed sensor

Is the new non-magnetic speed sensor compatible with Garmin 64s?
On Garmin site they say that it is compatible, but Garmin 64s with old speed/cadence sensor can operate only cadence signal.
New speed sensor is diffrent? Can it measure speed from sensor or still only from satellites?
  • All speed sensors ultimately measure the speed in the same way : counting the revolutions of the wheel and multiplying by the circumference of the wheel. If there is no way to enter the wheel circumference, no speed sensor is going to work.
  • OK, so why Garmin site says its compatible? Compatible how?
I heard that in 64s bike speed sensor is working only on actual speed in data window. Average speed and distance are from satelites.
    Can anybody confirm that?

Test it yourself. Either turn gps off and go for a ride. (maybe not possible on a 64) Or put the bike in a stand. And start pedaling.
