Garmin Vivoactive with magnetless Speed Sensor and Cadence bundle

I was able to connect the sensors separately and they stayed connected during my ride but the speed sensor has never lit up... I am assuming since it is connecting it must be ok but seems odd to me. Anyone had this happen?
