That's strange. I use it like that all the time. Phone locked, in my back pocket. I usually listen to music as well and the alerts come through without issue. I'm using an iPhone.

I did sync all files manually through USB and everything is fine again.
There was no corrupted file.

I just tried another map and apparantly the Garmin Edge 820 only supports the file format 'latin1' and not the 'UTF-8'. Then it does not matter if it is OSM, Openfiets, BBBike. Just spent a few hours on this and thought I would share the info. Happy …
