Might also be that the particular map is "too large" for the device. I know the device has limits (not necessarily just file size), but I do not know what they are. Might be worth opening a support ticket, particularly since there is a crash involved…

Apart from manual calibration, which is far the best, DEM-based calibration should work, too. The level of error was in the range of 0-5m when I relied on it. Until 14.00.
But my experience is the same with 15.20 and 15.40, something may have been wrong…
I had the same problem. Signing out and in again worked for me.
I've had this for about 6 weeks or so, then updated to the latest 15.40 Beta release and its working automatically again!
