For me, it is not black and white, but be aware as it is a topo map, and it uses colors to indicate different terrain. So if you are in a city, it's mostly gray. Woods would be green, glacies blueish ....

When you plug your Garmin into a PC, it will go into USB thumb drive mode. Before unplugging your watch from the PC, make sure to eject it from your computer. On windows, you can do this from the USB thumb drive notification on the taskbar.
