Garmin GNS430 non-WAAS terrain data card will not update the obstacle database.

Although I ran the Card Repair Utility Garmin sent me, the card checked out as fully repaired and indicated it had a base map on it. I then attempted to update the obstacle database and got this error message:

Invalid Data Card. This update is not allowed to be installed on this data card. Please contact Garmin Support for assistance.

What can you do for me other than crediting the $50 I spent for the update?

Seems like the download attempts were reached for that cycle potentially. If you reach out to Garmin's aviation Support team they should be able to reset the downloads for you and it should allow you to update the card.

The good news is the GNS430 is back up and running with a new obstacle data base. What happened?

1. The card repair utility removed the terrain database. I did not know it at the time, but this will kill the use of the card even after a successful download of the obstacle database update.

2. Garmin Aviation Support did reset my account and added the terrain database back onto the card.

3. Problem solved, and case closed.
