Battery/Solar Battery only lasting 2-3 days on saver mode after full USB charge

Hi everyone !

I am new to Garmin Solar watches and recently I bought an standard Instinct solar in very good cosmetic condition. Slight smile

Battery/Solar Battery only lasts 2-3 days on saver mode after full USB charge.

A "full USB charge" estimates 56 days in save mode but in reality it lasts two or 3 days max.

Is there anything I can do about it to increase the time beween charges ?

Would a system/software downgrade likely to achieve that ? How is that done ?

I am trying not to open the watch and relace the battery so it remais waterproof.

Any help or suggestion is welcomd !

Cheers and tx a lot.

  • Hello

I am sorry to hear you are having this issue. There are a few things we would recommend considering.

    • How old is the battery in the watch. We do generally start to see a decline in battery life after it has been used for around 3 years. And it sounds as though you purchased this used.
    • What features are you using during this time? You mention placing the watch in battery saver. But are you also recording GPS or non-GPS activities during this time? If so, this will increase the battery drain.

There are a few steps you can try as well.

    • Ensure the watch SW is on the latest version 19.10, using Garmin Express.
    • Clean the charging contacts on the back of the watch and cable. For this, we recommend using rubbing alcohol.
    • Try a hard reset. For this, hold the Control button until the watch shuts off, as opposed to selecting power off. Then power this on again. And test the battery life.

If there is no change, I would recommend trying a factory reset with these steps:

    1. Ensure the watch is powered off.
      • You may need to hold CONTROLfor up to 30 seconds to turn the watch off.
    2. Press and hold SET and GPS.
    3. Press CONTROL to power the watch on while holding these two buttons.
    4. After the first beep release GPS.
    5. After the second beep release the remaining button.

If this continues, you will want to contact Garmin Product Support.

  • Happy New Year !!

Thanks a lot for the reply mate. I will try and do the suggested recommendations.
