Instinct 2 Solar screen contrast

I still have the original Instinct and definitely can compare...

The screen contrast of the Instinct 2 Solar is terrible.

My daughter wears my old Instinct and I can see the time from across the room, while I have to use the backlight (which is also washed-out blue) to see the time Instinct 2.

The time is the biggest element in the screen, so if I can't see the time, just imagine how difficult it is to see the step count of any of the other pieces of data.

I hope there is a software fix for this at some point.

Anyone else with this issue?

Allan.

  • You are very welcome.

I own instinct 1, instinct 2 solar and instinct 2x solar. I can read all of them well. If your display has poor contrast, I recommend contacting Garmin support.

I do not assume that your poor contrast can be remedied with a software update.

  • Are you still having this issue? Debating between the solar and non solar. Battery life great for both it seems and don’t really care about garmin pay but considering the solar only for a color option that’s not available apparently in non solar.

  • There is a small difference between the Solar and non-solar GI2 models. The Power Glass used to collect some solar energy, although it harvests primarily the UV and IR parts of the light spectrum, it absorbs some of the visible light too. Most people won't even notice it, but if you are in doubts, you best visit a store having both models, and compare them side by side.

There is no color option for Instinct, regardless whether solar or non-solar. They all use a monochrome MIP low-power display.

  • I agree, I just bought mine and comparing to Instinct v1 screen is very dull. I am thinking about returning it.
