Wanting to know the best GPS settings to use when surfing in Australia
Or only GPS ? The question cannot be answered. The result depends on the current satellite Constellation at the moment of your activity. The position of the satellites changes constantly, and not all satellites of all systems are always in operation.
Single band GPS, is the default and will provide the least accuracy.
For dualband GNSS, GPS + GALILEO should provide the best out of the three due to GNSS L1 spec of
GALILEO is better than GLONASS. CIQ 3.3.6 adds GPS+BEIDOU which another jump in accuracy.
CIQ 3.3.6 adds MultiBand GNSS
L1 option which includes all systems at L1 (GPS GLONASS GALILEO AND BEIDOU) is i find the best tracks at slower speeds ie running or walking
L5 option which includes all systems (GPS L5, GLONASS L1, GALILEO L5 AND BEIDOU L5) best tracks at faster speeds ie driving flying.
Garmin’s AutoGNSS I did not see any better improvements than Dual Band.
With the Fenix7xSolar I do not see any battery drain difference in any option, but each will behave differently.

All my apps support, Single, Dual Band and MultiBand GNSS positioning.
I realize this is an old thread but I'm still interested in Australia. Looking to buy a GPS for anywhere in the world but especially US and Australia. What is the BEIDOU sat that you mentioned? I don't see that listed as an option.
It’s availability depends on the watch model.
This is Instinct (1st generation) forum, and the old Instinct does not support the Connect IQ technology at all. The watch supports GPS, Glonass, and Galileo (single band). Only APAC models of Instinct support BeiDou (and also the Japanese GNSS Mitchibiki)
