Instinct Solar turns off during pool swim timing

My instinct Solar has started to crash and turn itself off duringpool swims. Sometimes it keeps some / all of the data (distance swam), but other times it does not.

Problem seems random as it is not all of the pool swims and not always at the same point. I got this on the 31 Dec 2020 and this has started in the past month.

The watch is charged weekly and I swim on Sundays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. I do not think it is power related as some Thursdays it is perfectly fine. 

I have done a hard reset and it took about half an hour to sort itself out. It is currently on software version 18.54 and the last update came through in the past week. 

It seems to be working fine in all other respects.

  • Some users suffering the same issue reported that turning off the Phone option in Instinct's Controls menu, or turning off Bluetooth on the phone, helped avoiding the crashes during swimming. I am not sure whether it helps you too, but it is worth of trying.

    Note: you can also set up a Power Mode with the "Phone" option turned off, and assign it to Pool Swimming, so that you do not need to do it manually each time.

    I have set this up on my watch including setting the new power state to pool swims, so I will see if this works over the next few swims.

  • I had setup the power state that removed Bluetooth and phone option  whilst that state. Then added it to run during timed pool swims. 

    Sadly although it worked for 1 swim session, 3 other subsequent swim sessions it crashed out each time. On the most recent swim session, even after I had turned it back on, 10 mins later it was off again. Turned it back on and it has been fine ever since.

    Dear Santa - can you drop by with another Garmins Instinct Solar please? I would be very happy to swap it.

  • I am sorry there is an issue. The v18.54 update notes it addresses a potential crash/restart during a Pool Swim activity. If your watch is already updated to v18.54 when you check your Settings > About menu, please do not hesitate to reach out to Outdoor Product Support in your region right away taking into account how long you have owned your watch.
