Low "disk" space on Garmin Instinct Solar

The Garmin Instinct Solar has few disk space, about 8 MB, so it must be emptied on a regular basis.

While mounted as mass storage, I realized that two directories use close to 5 MB:

- Device : 2.4 MB

- Monitor : 2.3 MB

What are these?

Is it normal they use so much space?

Should/may I remove files from there?

(Note that the watch is in energy saving mode most of the time unless I run an activity. I don't care about losing data about steps and such.)

Thanks

  • Should/may I remove files from there?

The folder Monitor contains all daily monitoring data - not only steps, but also HR, Calories, IM's and others. The data is being deleted each time you sync, so deleting them manually is unnecessary.

At the folder Device, I am not sure, because currently I just synced, and it is hence empty too, but I would definitely not try deleting it. Rather try syncing, preferably with Garmin Express, and see whether it is emptied.

You can delete all files from Activity, REMOTESW, NewFiles, TEXT (if you use English, even the english.ln4 may be deleted), unneeded files from Courses, Workouts, Sports,...

  • Thanks for the clear answer.

I don't sync, I only communicate by USB Mass storage, moving files manually. This explains why those directories are growing in size with time.

I'll probably delete monitor files and perhaps device, although I wouldn't mind a confirmation that doing so is harmless.

  • I forgot to mention that the folder contains the sleep, stress data, and probably also the VO₂max, Training Effect, and other similar data too (not sure whether they are in the same folder or somewhere else). If you have no use for the monitoring data, then you can delete all the files. Or you can archive them, for the case you change your mind later, and will find some use for it.

  • Update: I deleted (moved to computer) the content of the Monitor and Device directories and I've been using the watch since then, no issue.
