Instinct Solar Not Displaying Second and Watch Face Freezing

Software ver. 15.10 (already latest for my watch)

Second disappears from watch face for no reason, and the whole watch face freezes. Heart rate data can't be updated but minute can be updated. I can provide the video if needed.

I restart the watch everyday to ensure it functions normally, so don't tell me to restart my watch more frequently. And actually this is my 2nd instinct solar. I also found this issue on my 1st instinct solar.

  • It's been here many times. Just search. It's a saving of a blindfold, you move your hand and it will appear.

Thanks! So this is a power saving method?

  • Yes, the hand does not move, so everything is not displayed and thus energy is saved (at rest, sleep, rest). If you start moving, everything is visible again.

I've got a question to add here -- in those images, why is there a distorted font for the barometer / heart rate monitor / date?  That font on my device (15.40 UK) looks pixel-perfect crisp -- whereas your device looks like it is the result of a bitmap conversion of an TrueType/OpenType font.

Just saying, on every other device I've seen, it's crisp, but on yours it looks a bit dodgy.  I hope that a firmware update doesn't do that!!

My device is 15.10 CN. Actually I found this font weird at first glance, but I thought this might be normal. And here is my font information. Would you mind sharing yours? It's in Settings -> About

Mine doesn't have the font data, but it does actually make sense that there is a custom font file for different language characters, and that per-font rendering would produce the result you're getting if each character wasn't cleaned up.  It's likely only the English core font has been readability-optimised in that way.

In case you're interested on a techincal level, I'm a developer who has worked on embedded custom firmware devices, and I think there's a good technical reason for it.  The watch probably doesn't use unicode internally considering the chipset, or it does, but it'd be wasteful on the limited System-on-Chip NAND (storage) or RAM to have a huge, detailed character set.  It'd also make the character selector massive (the wheel that allows you to enter text), so either way, so you'd need a smaller custom character set instead for languages other then English.

It's a shame I can't have a bit more fun with this watch's firmware, as I certainly would, given the chance, and there's a lot of things on my and others' wishlists.  Maybe one day.

Here's my Settings -> About for you, anyway.
