Red skin on wrist under watch

  • After 9 months of fairly constantly wearing my Instinct Solar watch I've noticed a distinct red area on my wrist under the raised central area where the heart rate monitor and pulse ox lights are located. I have noticed other reports online of similar skin redness in this area caused by both Garmin and other brand of watch. Is this causing damage to the skin? I've attached a photo.

  • I have sometimes gotten the same skin irritation like yours.  I notice it more when I don't take off the watch in the shower and then remains damp under the watch.  Wear the watch on the other wrist for a few days to let the rash heal.

  • The skin should most of the time be in contact with air. If the watch covers the same piece of skin for a long time, bacteries who don't like oxygene and otherwise could not survive, can multiply and provocate an inflammatory reaction, that is exactly what you see here: The skin is red. What you can do is, like D_Estes wrote, or simply loosen the wrist band one or two units, such as the watch moves a bit and air circulates over your skin.

  • We are sorry to hear about the issue you are reporting. The skin irritation may be a result of build-up on the watch band and/or casing. You should discontinue wearing your watch until your skin has healed.
