Fail to update hour part in Power Saving Mode

Situation: At the beginning of this video, the time should be 20:59. However, the watch forgot to update the hour part when the watch changed from 19:59 to 20:00. During the hour 20:xx, the minute part seemed to be able to update but not the hour part (stayed at 19:xx). When the time transited from 20:59 to 21:00, the time was corrected.

This problem occurred in Power Saving Mode, and has happened several times since I bought it last year. I keep updating its firmware whenever there is an update.

Anyone has encountered this problem?

  • Yes & yes.  First hour wrong in power savings mode then corrected at the turn of the next hour.  Garmin is aware of that but did not fix it (yet).  Not sure if it will ever be fixed.

  • I am sorry you are having a power saver issue with your time changing. Please confirm your software version going to Settings > About. We have not had any new reports of the issue seen in your video since the bug was resolved 6 months ago. Thank you.

  • I had exact the same problem some minutes ago, my watch went from 1259 to 1200. At 1201 I unlocked my keys which made the watch correct the time to 1301. My software version is 15.40.

  • Thank you for your post confirming the issue and your software being fully up to date on version 15.40.

I am sending a direct Private Message to everyone in this thread to gather more information. I will be happy to write a case that will go to our Instinct Solar engineers to get the bug resolved. (IE: NL-LMK, egosumgo, and arminamstad.)

For any other customer that sees this thread and would like to be added to the tracking case so you will be emailed once the issue has been resolved, please highlight my name and send me a private message. Thank you.

I also have this problem with:

    Instinct Solar Graphite
    Software Version 15.40 (ea6111a)
    SNS: 6.01
    Location: UK

When the watch is in Battery Saver mode, with the 12-hour clock, at 1:59pm the clock's display advances from 1:59, to 1:00 instead of 2:00.  It then continues to 1:01.

This seems to be a rather serious glitch in the optimised invalidation rectangle of the powersave display, invoked when the hour is updated.  If you scroll to any of the widgets, you can see the correct time then animate off the display with '2:01'.

When I first spotted the problem, this caused me to believe the time was 1:01pm, when in fact it was 2:01pm.  When I checked my step count target, the time changed.

(I also have a niggle that AM/PM is not shown in 12-hour mode, although this is a personal preference based on previous watches I've had).

Considering this is a £300 watch, simply showing the wrong time isn't good and may be worth a return.

  • The firmware is now updated to version 16.12 (APAC). The problem still exists. In the attached video, I compare the displayed time with Vivoactive 3. Instinct solar is in Power Saving Mode, and its displayed time is one hour behind. However, when I press a button, the hour part becomes normal as soon as I press a button.
