Incorrect Walking Time

After hiking, walking time is way too short on garmin connect. When uploading from Garmin connect to Strava, walking time on Strava is corrected (+ 1 hours)

  • I assume you are talking about the difference in 'moving time'. My best guess: Garmin and Strava have their own algorithms for interpreting the GPS data. Part of this is a moving speed threshold; below this threshold you are considered stopped and above it you are considered moving. If your speed is slow enough and right around this threshold, you may get wildly different moving times when comparing between Garmin and Strava. How Garmin and Strava filter/smooth the track will have an effect as well.

I just compared a hike I did yesterday. Garmin shows a moving time of 1:32 and Strava shows a moving time of 1:44 for the same track data. If I brought the data into BaseCamp I'm sure I would get a different number as well.

I discovered this issue with moving speed threshold just recently when I added an alpine rock climbing activity to Strava. Even though I was moving, it was much too slow and below Strava's threshold. Strava assumed I was stopped which resulted in inaccurate/useless stats.
