How is your face configured?

I just got my watch and I am curious as to how all of you have your main face configured.  Can I improve on mine?

The primary reason I got this watch was for my hiking.

Instinct solar face

P.S.  I found this guy 'JUMBLE2015' on Youtube and he is very helpful in explaining in short videos different aspects of this watch.  Maybe some of you can benefit from it too:

  • I just got my watch and I am curious as to how all of you have your main face configured.  Can I improve on mine?

It is a bit odd question, because everyone has different needs. And that's exactly why the watch face is customizable. Everyone is customizing the screen in the way to see those fields that he/she finds the most important, and so you should do too. We cannot know whether you prefer seing incoming messages, sunset/sunrise, HR, date, elevation, or any other of the countless options available for the individual fields of the face. Go through them and select those that you wish having a quick access to.

  • I understand that everyone has different needs and thus a different configuration.

I have cycled through all the options in each field and so far I have this selection.  As I stated, I got the watch for hiking, so perhaps people with lots of outdoor experience can have some good tips on their configuration, not only the face, which I have asked for, but also other settings that can assist in hiking.

  • Well, for the outdoor activity the elevation or the barometer graph instead of the HR may be useful. Also the sunset time in the bottom field may be important at hiking. You may not need to see the temperature of the weather report, because it is often wrong or outdated anyway, so you can put another data into the round eye - for example the HR. But really, there are so many possibilities, that you better go through them all and select for yourself.

  • ... additionally, when hiking, and recording the hike as an Activity, the main watch face is replaced by the Activity screen, containing other data. You can toggle between the two by using the SET button (right bottom).

  • This 'SET' toggle is a good tip.  Thanks.  I will take my watch out for the first hike on Sunday, so I am sure this would have become an issue for me.

I have downloaded a Komoot course onto my phone and I notice that, after selecting the course, but before strating it, it says '22h' in the eye, instead of my 18d for my battery life.  What is that 22h, is it how much battery is left if I were to activate the course?  Thus, if the hike takes me 5 hours, that should be lower than the 22 hours indicated there and I would be safe with enough battery.

  • The GPS chip is probably the most energy-hungry component of the watch, hence yes, when you activate an outdoor activity, or the navigation, the consumption will increase significantly, and the estimated battery time will drop dramatically.

  • I would say, track your walk to work or something to get a better idea how the watch works and what data it shows. If you do it several times, you may get a better idea what you need.

This is what I did when I first bought mine and wanted to use it for cycling. I went to the park and to work several times and played with the data fields until I chose the ones I find most useful. Then I did a couple of short rides to known places to refine the layout and then, I was done. You can try that. Slight smile

  • Good idea to test it with other activities.  This is what I am doing whenever I walk about.  Just also think it is good if I don't have to re-invent the wheel and to learn from other's experience.

I am quite impressed with all the information that the mobile app provides.  It is amazing and I'm looking forward to start gettting insights once I have collected enough data.
