Is there a way to set your display to timeout for normal use?

I know that in the power modes you can set your watch display to timeout in an activity, but how do I set it to timeout for normal use (so that the display is off till I flick my wrist)?

Does having the time display not use much battery life - I'm assuming that's why it's not a feature?

The MIP display Instinct uses, does not consume practically any power when static. Just couple of microwatts (millionths of a watt). It means you could keep it powered for couple of thousands of hours (or even tens of thousands of hours) before depleting the battery with it. You would pull much more energy from the battery if you repeatedly turned the display off and on (it is around 3 orders of magnitude more energetically demanding than the static state). Hence adding such function makes no sense - it would have negative impact on the battery life.

  • Thanks  - that totally makes sense!

  • Big ol' bump. I wonder why Garmin quotes +3 hours in power manager when you activate display timeout which is quite a power saving during activities.

It'd be nice to hear from Garmin. Personally I don't really care about an always on display but it is a bit more useful during day-to-day such as office work than an activity. The raise to wake function works well.
