How to track squash games?

Hey everyone,

I recently bought Garmin Instinct Solar (tactical moss) and I really love it so far.

It tracks all my hikes and snowboarding really good, but I could not find how to track my squash games.

I tried with the Indoor track, but it does not look really accurate. Has anyone done squash tracking with watches that does not have the app for it?

  • Depends what you are looking for. You can use cardio, or any other indoors activity with data screens fitting your needs. If nothing matches your needs, create a custom activity profile with own custom screens showng you exactly what you are looking for.

I tried with the Indoor track, but it does not look really accurate.

In which sense, not accurate? Are you expecting it to measure the distance you run? That won't be possible, since indoors, the distance is calculated from the average stride length and the number of steps. And since the stride length varies wildly at squash, you cannot get any exact numbers.

And if you mean Calories, then it absolutely does not matter what profile you choose - Calories are calculated only on the basis of heart rate and HR Variability, hence the choice of activity type has no influence on it. The same goes for Intensity Minutes - only the HR, and the average Resting HR for given day play role.

Also, if you wear the watch on the same hand that you hold the racket with, then it not only may be recording false/inaccurate step counts, but it will also very likely skew the HR reading, hence resulting in inaccurate Calories and IMs. Minimally wear it on the other hand, or attach it to the ankle, or better yet - wear a chest strap HRM for better accuracy.

  • Yes, I was thinking more of terms of distance that I covered, but maybe you are right there is no accurate way to track that.

I do not wear the watch on the same hand so I guess the calories were okay.

Thank you for your quick response!

  • Use Tennis, then edit the activity to Squash in the G connect app. Tennis tracks distance and heart rate. But yes, they should add this, since they added Padel!
