Body Battery Not Working

I love the concept, but it would appear that this just doesn't work.  Either that or there is something faulty in my device.  It's important for me to figure out the difference.  If the app/widget just isn't working, then fine, I can remove it and not use it.  If my device if faulty, I need to return it.

I sleep 8+ hours at night, but fail to recharge much, usually recharging to 30-50.  In my 3 + a bit weeks with this watch have only gotten above 50 nine times.  Is this normal?  I don't know how it can be.  I'd like to think that I am more recharged than that during my sleep time.  Last night, I slept soundly for a solid 6 hours before waking in the night (this is typical, so maybe my sleep isn't as restful as I think) and on a whim checked my body batter - during that 6 hours of what felt to me to be restful, deep sleep, my body battery only gained 4 points.  Then for the remainder of the night (much more restless and not what I felt was good sleep) I gained 2 more points for a grand total of 11 for the night.

Does anyone have similar experience with the Body Battery?  I appreciate any responses that may be helpful.

  • Is this normal?

The battery recharges when the Stress Level is low in the blue numbers (the HR Variability is high), and oppositely it discharges when the Stress Level is orange numbers (HR Variability low). So, check out your Stress graphs to see whether it is normal or not.

You can also try adjusting the fit and the position of the wristband if you suspect it does not read well your HR/HRV, and you should also try restarting or soft-resetting the watch, for the case some of the registers are in an undefined state (for example after a firmware update).

  • Thank you for this info.  My stress levels are always quite high.  That could be true.  Concerning, though.  I also wonder about the fit.  I have a very small wrist and the thing is like a monster on it.  Is there some way to test to see if things are working properly?

Yes - get a chest belt HRM, and compare its output with the data from Instinct.

  • Good to know.  For now, I'll ignore the body battery.
