Latest firmware. Already didi a full factory reset. My instinct solar eats up 20% battery per day without being used.

Hi there.

Recently installed latest firmware. Since then my watch lasts more or less 5 days.....and without doing anything.

I have all sensors disabled and I'm not using gps for recording activities. Already performed a double factory reset but without success....

Battery goes down about 20% per day....pretty ridiculous!!!

Before upgrading fw it was working correctly.... What shall I do?

To be honest it's not the first timr I'm facing issues after a fw update.....Pretty disappointed... About to sell it for something more reliable

thanks

Max

  • What shall I do?

Did you already speak to the Customer Support?

You could also install the v12.84 beta firmware, since there is apparently something that went wrong during the last firmware upgrade, so rewriting it with another one is likely the only way to get it fixed again.

  • thanks this is something i'm going to try a.s.a.p. I avoid contacting customer support since I consider it a waste of time. Not loosing my time for getting a typical answer such as " Have you already tried with a reset ? "

  • I avoid contacting customer support since I consider it a waste of time.

If your watch does not keep the charge more than a few days, they will replace it. And of course, they will ask to perform the reset first. That is very much comprehensible, and not avoidable.

  • my watch was working flawlessly until the last fw upgrade so I really hope it's only a software (big) bug

  • Likely it is not a software bug, otherwise we would all experience the same problem. However, this issue happens up and then to some users after a firmware update. Rather than a bug, it is due to the upgrade been interrupted (for example due to a wacky contact of the cable), and the watch then finishes with dammaged firmware, or settings.

  • I had a similar problem. Spoke to Garmin, they suggested clearing my history and soft reset. Seemed to work

  • Ok installed latest beta fw. Issue seems to be solved. Thanks

  • Mine ended up with the same issue.  After several hard and soft resets it never got resolved.  Garmin Support people exchanged it for a new one, so hopefully it won't happen with the next update.  Mine got so bad I only got a day and half out of a full charge.  Fingers crossed!

  • So here's my experience so far.  New unit was doing well for a couple days, moderate GPS usage, no big overnight battery drains.  On day 3 I did an activity later in the day, took the watch off for sleeping, and got up to see it had drained 15% overnight again--about 2% an hour.  Not awesome.  I did a couple hours of GPS-tracked activity and afterwards it stayed in that drain 2% an hour in smartwatch mode thing again.  I power cycled it and it stopped the battery drain (at that rate--it still ended up using 1% after that for the rest of the day).  I think something in the latest FW update(s) makes the GPS chip keep running like it's tracking an activity.  Like it gets stuck on.  Perhaps interrupting it by restarting can "turn it off"?  Anyway, that's my current thought, and I hope it gets resolved.  My previous unit kept eating up battery faster and faster, so I ended up with only a day and a half on a full charge, with no GPS usage at all.  Hope that doesn't happen again!

  • Interesting observation. After you power-cycled the watch, did it consume only 1% overnight ?  I think I may have seen something similar. Once after an hour long GPS activity, my watch lost close to 10% during the day. Usually is around 2-3%. But without any power cycle watch behaved properly from next day. I am running 12.20 beta.

Can you try disabling GPS (In Running settings) after your GPS activity is over instead of power cycling the watch and see if the battery drain stops ? I will also try and report back.
