Does LiveTrack improve your GPS Track?

Hi,

Now this might just be coincidence, but I used LiveTrack for the first time today, just to test it. Afterwards, I looked at my track and it was the cleanest, least squiggliest ever. Considering that in order to send the live data, your phone is connected, maybe I thought this may be the contributing factor, because essentially you have two devices looking and using your track. Does anyone know if this is the case or theoretically possible? I do realize there are good days and bad when it comes to GPS tracks; also there would still be the question why if this was true, why it wouldn't be this way any time you have your phone with you, and when you do not use LiveTrack. But the track today was quite a bit better than a typically good one, so I had to ask...

Cheers,

Alexander

  • If you normally run without the phone (or without having it connected to mobile data, or to the watch), and with an expired CPE file, then yes - having the connection and the ability to update the CPE file will definitely help.

  • Thanks, that does make sense. However, I do speedwalk with (not run) with my phone in my pocket quite a bit, connected to Gamin Connect, with mobile data on, yes, so should always have an accurate CPE file. Still, I never got anything as accurate as when I also had LiveTrack on. So you are saying that is a coincidence and LiveTrack has nothing to do with it, right?

I believe so, but I may be wrong, of course. Analyzing both activites (with and w/o the LT) would tell better. One possibility is that the LT turns on the Every Second recording instead of the default Smart Recording, though I doubt it is the case. In any case, you can also turn it on yourself. And you can also enable GPS+Galileo for a slightly better chance for more accuracy in difficult conditions.

  • I always have the 1 second recording on as well, so I don't think that's it.. I will keep trying it with LT to see if I can observe a continued accuracy over time. Thanks for your help!
