Weather widget on Instinct Solar highly inaccurate (108F)

So my Instinct says that it's currently 108F.

Disregarding the fact that I'm in Northern California, I'm not sure it's 108F anywhere in the US right now (January 11). In fact, from a quick look at global temperatures, I don't think it's 108F anywhere on Earth.

Any idea how to debug this? I doubt it's getting correct data from a wrong location. It has to be parsing it incorrectly (or someone has pointed a heat dish at a cell tower?)

Thanks!

  • In Garmin Connect Mobile » Settings » User Settings » Weather Location, verify the location the app is using, and check the permissions. If the app uses the "Phone Location", try setting a Fixed Location instead, to see whether it makes any difference.

  • Ooh. That does fix things. Very curiously, I switched from "Phone Location" to "Fixed Location" and the weather is correct (well, as correct as you can expect with the distance from my location to the reporting station location -- it's about 12 miles away). Then I switched it back to "Phone Location" and it is STILL correct.

That suggests something in GCM that went a little goofy interpreting the location. I'll remember to have to toggle this back and forth next time the weather widget is off.

Thank you! Hadn't stumbled across that setting.
