Perhaps your old Instinct was defectuous - I do not have, and did not have the problems you mention with the elevation at the old Instinct.
It was not defective at all. Garmins tried to solve this problem with SW, but it didn't work, he added altitude improvements to almost every FW, but it didn't work. Users came up with a lot of tweaks, various things, there are a few threads in the forum of the old Instinct. Including gadgets on a 3D printer, or pasting with anything. Solar works reliably from the beginning. Whatever it is, I'm glad it works. :-)
Solar works reliably from the beginning.
As I wrote, physically they are identical, The difference is in the firmware, and that is in this part identical at both models too. Personally I see the same number and type of complaints about the elevation problems, on the standard Instinct forum, as well as here on Instinct Solar forum, confirming the functionality of the altimeter is identical at both models. Check out for example the following Instinct Solar threads, showing many users have the same problems with Solar as with the standard edition.
Thanks

So I see an incomparably smaller number of height problems with Instinct Solar, mainly related to incorrect settings. This thread for the old Instinct speaks for itself ....

The thread question has already been answered...............

Not me. I see about the same number of problems on both sides. And I follow both forums quite closely. The thread you linked is a year old, when Solar did not exist yet (and the firmware evoluted since that time), so of course, considering the basic Insinct is here since over 3 years, and the number of users is probably an order of magnitude (or two) higher than at Solar, than naturally, in absolute, the number of posts has to be higher. However, in the last few months (since the introduction of Instinct Solar), there are more posts about problems with altimeter at Instinct Solar than at the standard Instinct.
