Altimeter/barometer/thermometer/PulseOX --> Sensor Hub Rollback

I have a Garmin Instinct Dual Power (Japanese version of the Insinct Solar).

On Oct. 17th it performed a "sensor hub" update, after which the barometer/thermometer sensors stopped working.
The altimeter now never changes.
The altimeter calibration fails.
The barometer reads 83886.
The thermometer does not show any value.

Something similar already happened with my previous Instinct Dual Power, but it was 10 days after purchase and Amazon replaced it for free.

Is there any way to solve the issue rather than getting a 3rd replacement unit?
I already tried rebooting and resetting the device.

I am really starting to doubt about the long-term reliability of this device.

Thank you for your help,
Giordano

  • Mine started to suffer from very same problem since last Saturday. I'm guessing automatic software update was done unnoticed since the automatic software update option was turned on. It's quite disappointing that this is well known issue but Garmin still does not know how to implement software update properly and the only fix is to get a replacement.

I don't think I will be purchasing Garmin product in the future.

Same thing happened to me (Instinct Solar), installed new update (definitely sensor hub and BLE/ANT update) last saturday thru garmin connect and then ABC sensor stopped working. Tried to reset (clear data + default settings) it but no joy. Just own it for 2 months, my very first Garmin product and just returned it to local service center this afternoon, they told me that there were 3-4 similar cases in the last 2 days. Need to wait for around 14 working days and probably get a replacement unit.

I think software update is the culprit. At first I was very happy to receive software update and think that the product will be performing better than before, but now I would be very afraid to update it when I got my replacement unit back.

Same problem with barometer.. Does anyone have a solution?

    Thanks!

  • If you are experiencing this issue, you can backdate the Sensor Hub software on your watch to version 3.00. If you'd like to try this, here are the steps:

    1. Download the .GCD file attached to this post
    2. Connect watch to computer
    3. Open the Garmin drive
    4. Open the Garmin Folder
    5. Open the RemoteSW Folder
    6. Place the .GCD file into the RemoteSW Folder
    7. Edit the name of the .GCD file to remove "_force" from the name
    8. Safely eject the watch and power on

    GUP3467_FORCE.GCD

  • It worked! My barometer and thermometer are back working! Amazing!

Thank you very much, it is the first time I see a working solution for the 83886 problem!!

Thank you! :) It works for me also.

  • It worked for me also. Mine is Korean version so solution also works for non-US version.

Be sure to disable automatic software update in the settings to avoid having sensor hub updated again.

  • Is the Sensor Hub Software provided here suitable for the other non-solar Instincts?

  • Can you give me a solution for the same issue on MARQ GOLFER 11.10 FW (KOR Ver.)?
