Instinct 3 Solar Still Reboots After Updating to Version 9.20

Instinct 3, 50mm Solar version, updated to the latest 9.20 firmware today. When starting an activity with GPS only, everything works fine. However, when using All Systems (Multi-GNSS), there is a high chance the watch will reboot.

This issue has been present since the previous version and continues through all the beta versions as well. My system language is set to Chinese.

  • I would try resetting the watch to factory defaults. If it does not help, reach out directly to the Product Support through their website at https://support.garmin.com.

  • Thank you, please go ahead and do that right away

Do what? If you mean the reset, then you have to do it yourself, on your watch. And if you mean contacting the Support, you have to do it yourself too. There is no point that I contact the Support myself, since I do not have any such problems with my Instinct 3.

  • If you’re not experiencing the issue, then good for you — you’re lucky. But the methods you mentioned have already been tried by many of us, and Garmin has claimed to have fixed the issue, yet clearly it persists for some users. That’s exactly why this discussion is necessary. Just because you’re not affected doesn’t mean others aren’t.

  • Hello

I am sorry to hear you are having this issue. I would love to help investigate this further. For this, I will reach out to you via Private Message to collect the details of this concern.

That's correct, and I realize that some users have this issue, but I do not understand why you asked me to contact the Support, when I did not report any such problems.

  • Thank you for your reply. I’ve noticed that you are quite active on the forum, and it seems your device hasn’t experienced any bugs. May I ask: did you not encounter any restart issues when starting a GPS activity before version 9.20? If not, then why was this issue addressed in the official update?

Some devices couldn’t be updated from version 6.xx. You’ve repeatedly advised users to delete system folders via Windows to free up space—but some of those folders simply do not exist on the Venu 3. Did you personally test these steps before recommending them to others?

Many of us post here because we have already contacted customer support, but the issue remains unresolved. This is not an isolated case—it’s not just my device. We're here to compare experiences with other users facing similar problems.

If your device is working fine, that’s great—but please don’t keep telling others what to do, especially when your responses aren’t helpful to everyone. Not everyone appreciates being told to "contact support" every time they bring up a problem.

Also, think about it: do we have to reinstall our iPhone, Mac, or Windows system from scratch with every update? If that were necessary, wouldn't that itself be considered a problem?

I mean no offense—thank you again.

  • Me too, my Instinct 3 Solar reboots after updated to 9.20, when I changed system language from English to Chinese Simplfied.

  • hi, My Instinct 3 solar reboots too. After updated to 9.20, I changed system language from English to Chinese simplified, but reboots on run.

  • I also had around three reboots after updating to 9.20 while I tried to load notifications mostly. It becomes unresponsive and then reboots. Instinct 3 Tactical if that important.
