Garmin Instinct 3 solar battery drain

Good afternoon! I ran into a problem on iOS 8.09 when using Garmin instinct 3 solar. After installing CIQ and any applications (for example battery monitor), the watch starts to discharge 1-2% per hour. Is this a normal discharge

The first charge to 100% was enough for me for 5 days with 5 hours of GPS training.

I use iphone with software version 18.3.2 and the latest versions of the Connect and ConnectIQ apps.

  • Do you have any Health features enabled? I’m on 8.09 as well (no health features and phone connection disabled) and have found that the 30+ days estimate is accurate. I don’t have any CIQ installed though as they can drain your battery.

  • I only have heart rate tracking enabled in the standard watch face. so2 is off. I think it's very strange that your smartwatch is not connected to the phone. If I wanted the same, I would buy a casio.

  • After installing CIQ and any applications (for example battery monitor), the watch starts to discharge 1-2% per hour. Is this a normal discharge?

No, it is not a normal discharge. Did you try uninstalling the CIQ app, to see whether it is not the reason?

  • A piece of advice, when you come to a forum and you ask for assistance, don’t insult people when they give you a response. I’ll configure my watch which way I want too. You have no idea what I use it for, thx buddy.

  • Yes, I did the file cleanup that you wrote about in the next topic with the problems of updating to 8.09 and a full reset. And finally, the watch began to show 18 days on a full charge and 28. After that, I did not install anything. Consumption seems to have returned to standard values (about 3-4% per day). I hadn't had garmin before, but the consumption with a third-party watchface seemed very huge (it reminded me of the first series of pebble watches (how long ago it was)). I'm thinking of setting the CIQ and looking at the consumption of 1-2 days. then maybe try to install a Tested watch face? Maybe someone can tell me a third-party watchface that definitely doesn't consume that much on the same combination (iOS + garmin) so that I can test it?

  • I see high drain of about 10% a day with any custom watchface from Garmin watchface builder (3rd party) even basic ones. Also I saw twice time being out of sync with 3rd party. That is with everything turned off so not related to connection.

And using Garmins own store watchfaces the watch becomes very slow and I see reports of higher drain there as well in the reviews.

I hope Garmin can acknowledge and fix this since 3rd party WF is broken at least for me.

  • It turns out that this is a similar problem. After I removed CIQ, the consumption returned to normal values up to 4% per day. It is very strange for a "smart" watch that I can't use third-party applications. I am ready to put up with half the operating time of the declared one, but not a quarter.

  • I apologize for the misunderstanding. Perhaps you misunderstood me, since English is not my native language. I just wanted to say that your message is off-topic. I am not writing about the problem with connecting to the phone. I have nothing against your method of use. But this information does not help at all. Do you understand?

  • I don't understand since you are not saying there are any connection issues with the phone in your first post. You only mention high drain. But now you say there is an issue with phone connection.

The title says high battery drain and from my understanding this drain happens regardless if you use a phone connection or not. So not sure where the phone comes in. If you only see the issue with phone connection, then that's not something I'm seeing.

  • I apologize. I wrote with a mistake and because of moderation I corrected it only now. There are no problems with the connection. There are problems only from installing the application. Now the application is not installed and consumption is fine.
