Watch restarts when viewing a glance - Solar 45MM

Anyone else experiencing this problem on the Instinct 3 Solar 45mm?

  • Each time I select glance, whether it be weather or temperature, the watch will restart at random.
  • In my case, turning it off didn’t help, and I did that long ago already
    v. 9.25

still waiting to official v. 10+

  • LOL. problem is there. nothing has changed. Reboots continue.

  • Well, it was worth a try. And some people that browse these forums but don't reply might find the answer they're looking for from me (I haven't had any crashes/reboots when navigating glances since disabling continuous pulse ox, as I said before).

  • I never use Pulse OX, meaning I have it set to "Manual", and I still get the crashes.

What I did observe is that the crashes happen mostly with glances that gather data *synchronously* from sensors or the internet. For instance, I always got the crashes when trying to check the glances on Solar power, HR, or smart notifications, but I don't recall seeing it with other glances like the Timezones clocks, for instance, or when opening the general "Health" glance without going deeper into the actual data from HR, Body battery.... the crash always happens when trying to watch "live data", or when opening the actual contents of smart notifications (vs just seeing the title of them).

This said, I observed that if I move a bit the watch physically in my wrist and making sure that the green light from the HR sensor is blinking, before using the glances, the chances to get the crash get reduced a lot, to the point that I haven't seen it in the past 4-5 days more than 1-2 times even when staying in the same 9.25 FW.

What this tells me is that there might be probably an issue with how the HR sensor interacts with the SW when checking the info from the glances that retrieve data synchronously, causing the crash. I don't know, but perhaps the HR sensor is not always working if the watch is not correctly positioned in my wrist (e.g. too tight, too loose) and if you try to open a glance in that state the crashes happens?

It's a long shot, but I hope that this helps debugging and eventually fixing the issue. In the meantime if others can try doing this same thing of moving the watch a bit in the wrist before opening a glance, see if that reduces the likeness for crashes to happen, and then comment here. I think that would be nice

  • Hmm, that's actually kind of interesting, since the red/infrared lights used for Pulse Ox are disabled during high movement (when using continuous pulse ox). If what you say is true, then accessing a glance with the right timing (e.g. if continuous pulse ox is not active, but enabled) might increase the likelihood of a crash, which could've been happening in my case.

  • It's a long shot, but I hope that this helps debugging and eventually fixing the issue.

What would help, would be testing it with the last beta version, and then properly reporting it on the Bug section of the Beta Program forum. And when I tell "properly", then it means posting there also the crashlogs. Without them the developers cannot do much, since the issue is not reproducible on most units. See the detailed instructions at What information is needed to report a bug? - Beta Wiki - Beta Program - Garmin Forums

  • I agree but I personally don t want to run beta software on my watch, I'd rather wait for the next upgrade and test there, even if that might mean delaying a proper fix.

As for adding the logs, I also agree with that regardless of using beta or not, and I will attach them again if I see them in the new fw (note that I already did that before in this thread)

  • Garmin!!!!! Can you fix the damn issue????? It's been two month of everyday restarts now...

  • I don't use pulse ox personally and it still happens.

  • How come my brother's I3 Amoled works without issues one week yet?
