Activity paused without intervention frequently

I just got my Garmin instinct 3 solar 45mm this week. The activity paused without intervention. This happened almost every time when I record an activity.

To make sure I did not accidentally press the button, the "Lock Screen" is ALWAYS ON and the "auto pause" is OFF.

The figure here shows my recent activities to demonstrate the problem. The A and B are the activity recorded by Instinct and Instinct 3 Solar (firmware 5.19), respectively, of same route. The orange circle indicates where the activity was paused. I resumed the recording when I noticed the watch paused the recording. The C is the latest activity with updated firmware (6.28), and the activity was paused at the orange circle.

There were prompted messages saying that all the connected sensors, including the GPS, HR sensor and speed sensor, were reconnected just after the pause event happened.

Any suggestions are welcome.

  • When the watch crashes (for whatever reason) during an activity, it then boots back into the Pause menu, hence I suspect that's what is happening to you. If you look on the file //GARMIN/Debug/err_log.txt (and err_log.bak) on the watch, it can confirm whether there were some crashes at the concerned time.

In your place, I would first try master resetting the watch to factory defaults with deleting all data, and then test it a few days again, to see whether it fixes it or not. Do not install any CIQ apps or watchfaces during the test. If it does not help, reach out to the Support.

  • trux: Thanks for your reply. I did check the err_log.bak and there are some records like this:

I'll try to reset to factory default and test again. I'll update the post after some day.

    Thanks for your opinion again.

  • Hi, this happened to my new Garmin Instinct 3 Solar too. It is rather annoying. Did resetting it work for you? Thanks
