Fenix 6x

Hi.

I have ordered the Instinct 3 Amoled 51mm, and I'm thinking of cancelling the order.

I currently own a Fenix 6x sapphire 51mm, but really wanted to change to an amoled display.

Ideally I'd upgrade to the Fenix 8, 51mm, but I'm not a wealthy guy.

I'm struggling to weigh up as to whether I can justify the lack of touchscreen and the older elevate sensor, though still more recent than the one on my current watch. The maps isn't an issue for me, but I still scratching my head as to why it's not present in the instinct.

Do I hang on for the fenix 8 to come down in price?

Is the instinct 3 a better watch than the Fenix 6x?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Jo.

  • Personally, if it’s the F8 you really want (speaker, diving, etc) then wait. If this aren’t important to you, then I’d tell you to look at the Epix (2nd gen) or the Pro series.

  • Hi, thanks for your advice. I'm a bit lost to be honest. I know its not amoled, but I've been wondering about the enduro 3 also. So you don't rate the instinct 3 though?

  • It depends on what is important to you, battery life and clear display (MIP) or a Amoled display with less battery life.  I have or have had all 3 but went with the F8 because of the diving features. I’m waiting for my I3 replacement as the first one I received had a damaged pixel. For the brief time I had my original I3, I liked it. That said, the I3 series doesn’t differentiate enough from the I2 series to justify the $300-$400 price tag.

  • That's really helpful Odie21, thanks again! I've never owned an Instinct, and figured it would be a step up from my Fenix 6 without costing silly money.

I think I'll stick to the Instinct 3, if it ever arrives!!

Thanks for your opinion, it really helped clear some doubts/questions that I had.

    All the best bud.

  • Not sure what decided to do, but if nothing yet, my thoughts:

-The F8 "coming down" in price is a long shot since it's so new.  I could see the next time it might is around fathers day holiday or in December for that holiday.  And even then, it's a crazy, overpriced watch.  It did help a bit as my health insurance had a 20% off coupon when I got mine.

-I'd strongly suggest getting a Epix 2 / Fenix 7 with multiband gps.  The non-pro version is around $500 for that one.  It comes with full blown maps and touch screen and other features, the I3 can't come close to.  Epix has the AMOLED screen. Or look at a Epix 2 pro (or Fenix 7 Pro) used if you want that new HR sensor.

-The only thing that is 'better' about the I3 Vs. F6X is the GPS and built in flashlight.

OP, what did you to ultimately decide to do?

  • Hi net1994.

I really appreciate your thoughts, and time. Thank you.

I didn't cancel the order for the Instinct 3. I liked the amoled display a lot, but found it too small, even though the case size is 50mm. Also, something that I honestly thought I was OK with, I wasn't. The lack of maps. So, after not too much deliberation, I returned it.

Then I ordered the fenix 8, 51mm, to be paid for over 10 months. I watched Chase the summit on YT, and he said something that really hit home. That, together with your advice, and that of Odie21, I cancelled the order and opted for the Epix pro gen 2 51mm (not the sapphire edition).

My reservations were that the Epix line has been discontinued,  and I don't know how long it will continue to receive updates. But it's so similar to the Fenix,  and I found it for 650€ on Amazon. I live in France,  and here the Fenix costs 1,099€

I hope I've made the right decision. I don't need the scuba capabilities, nor thr speaker/voice assistant.

Whilst it's still a lot to spend on a watch, I think I have avoided the enormous guilt I would have felt for committing to the expense of buying the Fenix.

Again, thanks for your time and effort.

  • AWESOME!!  You made the right choice.  My Epix 2 non-pro sapphire version doesn't have a single scratch on the glass after having ti for over 3 years.  If possible, I'd suggest canceling your order and get the sapphire version of the E2 Pro.  I think it's like an extra $100USD? It also has titanium bezel.

As for Epix 2 Pro updates, it will definitely receive bug and security fixes, but I don't think any new features.  Those will be reserved for the Fenix 8 family and newer watches.

  • .....just tried to cancel the order, and they said its too late.

I'll send it back. I was thinking that the sapphire would be better. Same on my 6x, not a scratch after a lot of wear.

Really appreciate your help here. It's a minefield!!

  • Fabulous! I'm so glad I could help.   Report back a few days after you get it with your impressions on the rpix.
