"there is definitely some suckage"
I have the 51mm AMOLED, and have had no issues so far, and I think it's a great watch.
It's strange that this is another Garmin buggy release. It looks like the first few weeks are beta testing for the first customers. He mentioned that Amoled was less buggy for him.
Yes the Jesus of Garmin reviews, DC Rainmaker, just published his review yesterday. https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2025/01/garmin-instinct-3-in-depth-review-amoled-solar.html Big points is can't fathom lack of maps and the latest Gen 5 HR sensor.
I like DC's reviews, but he is too opinionated, and he (and others) should not be that way, when they are influencing other people in their decision to buy products.
He adds his opinion that other devices have maps that are in the same price range, and gives the impression that it's unfathomable that garmin didn't include maps, but fails to mention that those devices don't have near the other features of the instinct. He adds his opinion about the gen 4 heart rate sensor being inferior, and why they didn't upgrade to the gen 5. But the gen 4 sensor is a perfectly fine sensor.
I've owned the fenix 8 (both amoled and mip), the enduro 3, the epix pro, and every fenix from the first one. I now own the I3 amoled 50mm, and it's a great device, and worth the price IMO. It may not have full maps, but I can navigate courses with it just fine, and it has just about all the other features of the fenix line at half the price.
Maybe some of these reviewers don't realize how much they influence people.
Or maybe they do, and just like playing god... lol
DC is much trusted and credible reviewer to many. and has very valid points on I3, but that's not the topic here.
As much it bothers you that DC was having too much opinion (that's his job too , even more, based on his actual research as opposed to empty statements most people do), you do exactly the same here, have your opinion. OK.
Now that something is not to your liking, you try to discredit it? Well, I guess it's also ok, but maybe simply ignore DC and provide some other source instead of slamming him.
Somehow his other reviews e.g. instinct 2/x or many other garmins, were quite positive.
Let's keep things healthy, thanks
I know he is a trusted and credible reviewer, and I've been watching his reviews for years and years.
I'm just pointing out the fact that... by him making it sound like garmin committed a cardinal sin by not adding maps to the I3, it started plethora of bickering on forums (including this one), that the I3 is not worth the price because it doesn't have maps and the new gen 5 sensor. His opinion influences a lot of people, and he could of just simply said that it didn't have maps or the new gen 5 sensor.
That's all I am trying to say.
I still watch and like his reviews, but with a grain of salt.
DesFit seems to be better at just sticking to the facts and not making things sound as critical.
But as you say... this is just my opinion.
What I'm not a fan of with the reviews, is the almost universal lack of a solid recommendation. Like "Yes, you should get X because of Y features and so on." Though with DC Rainmaker you can often read between the lines if he recommends it, or not by listening to what he's not telling us out loud, but still saying. Now the other review almost always say "it depends" if you should get it. This might work for you, or not, but only you would know." I think they don't want to bite the hand that feeds them with garmin early loaners before watch release dates. It's a shame. I wish they would point out more of the bad choices made with new watches.
