Instinct 3 with AMOLED now available!

Well...what a pleasant surprise!

3 different sizes and 3 different displays...or rather two. The old display is available with solar and without.

Tactical not out but the information on their website stae that the new Instincts have tactical features.

Colors are....interesting!

  • people don't want to pay for the same watch

What people? Are you speaking for everyone or just the people who post here?

  • Do you mean there's a conspiracy here, other forums, reddit and and the reviewers? Because it is not only at Garmin forums. People is dissappointed by this release because most really wants to buy Garmin and expected something better. As far as I'm reading, that seems a general thing.

It's pretty obvious what is doing Garmin here.

Personally, even if I'm dissappointed I'll perhaps buy the watch.

I want to think that Garmin will read and the marketing team can ask to push some major software updates like It has been in the past with other watches that received new features. That will not fix the screen and the maps for a watch that is already in the market but can make the watch more attractive (which is good)

Even without maps and the bad screen, I hope they can  push small things that are nice when outdoor like climb pro or the remaining altitude to a waypoint. Those kind of things that have a lot of sense for the Instinct series.

  • Do you mean there's a conspiracy here, other forums, reddit and and the reviewers? Because

I do not. But you certainly don’t speak for me and I would expect not for the majority either.

  • You only need to google a bit Phil. And you were answering another user (not me) and I was answering you because your opinion does not reflect the general opinion you can read here and at other sites.

Perhaps you are happy with paying again 450$ for that 1.1 inch screen, bad resolution and no maps, or perhaps you want Amoled but no maps or the battery life of the Instinct series and that's, of course, fine (for you).

In this case this thread has 8 pages and all comments seem to say that something more was expected (but yours and trux (as moderator))

And as said, no only here but in other forums and most important reviewers. That's the truth.

    ************

Said that, there are users that are going to buy the I3 (me it's probably one of them). But that doesn't mean that you are happy with this release. Just considering being Garmin the best brand of the market, that something more advanced was expected for the Instinct series as an outdoor watch. And it's ok to say that.

Many of us have used Garmin watches for many many years, but we are not stupid. We perfectly know what's happening here with this release.

  • The Instinct 3, whether solar (which I have) or Amoled, is rated far too negatively (not only here) in my opinion.

The decisive factor is always the individual user profile and not that you always have to have everything, even things you don't need.

For example: I come from the Forerunner 955. A downgrade in terms of functions. It was absolutely important to me at the time that the 955 had maps, otherwise I wouldn't have bought this watch. I never used the map function. Why is that? I always want the best version of accuracy and comfort.

This means that my watch, no matter which one, always has a strong partner at its side. When doing sports, it is the chest strap, which, equipped with electrode gel, delivers the most accurate measurements right from the start. When going on outdoor tours, it is the smartphone, on which various offline maps are installed for orientation and planning. I never get what I want without these partners. I would never go on a bike ride or a hike without a smartphone. The turn-by-turn directions on the watch itself are enough for me. If the Instinct Solar had maps, it would also need a more powerful CPU to calculate routes and handle graphics. The required power means battery life is lost.

For normal everyday use and tracking health data, the Elevate 4 sensor is absolutely sufficient and just as accurate as the Elevate 5. If I wanted an ECG, I wouldn't use the Elevate 5 sensor, but an external device. So the same as with a chest strap and smartphone.

Of course, there will be users for whom the Instinct does not meet the required requirements profile. I wouldn't switch from a 2X either. However, anyone with a similar user profile to that described above will miss little to nothing with the Instinct 3 and will have a beautiful watch on their wrist.

For those who are still undecided.

  • yeah, all right, but why do you even have sport watch if you always need to have something to accompany it - whenever you run or hike or whatever. why to have such a device, ain't it better to have regular time measuring watch?

as you said, everyone's different, some more want, some less.

many though would want more if they are to buy I3 I'd believe.

  • You're missing the point. The Instinct line is tried, tested and loved by many, and every owner knows its limitations and strengths. What people have a problem with is how little change there is in the Instinct 3 compared to its predecessor. Nothing has changed that could add functionality or improve the user experience. A slightly better battery or slightly better screen visibility doesn't really change anything. The only major thing is the addition of LED light to the 45mm version, that's really it.

  • As I said, I want the most accurate data collection possible when I'm exercising and the chest strap is better than the Elevate 5.
When you go on long outdoor tours and tours in unfamiliar areas, most people have a smartphone with them. Do people now leave their phone at home all day because they have a map on their watch?
Of course, you can train and tour without these two things if you can live with the disadvantages.

  • yes exactly and these changes are supposed to be cards and the Elevate 5.
    That's why I wrote that I wouldn't switch from the 2X either.

  • we go in circles, clearly our expectations differ, it's fine to have different pov. at the end what matters are sales volumes, people will share their views that way. hoping for garmin to turn a lite more agile, that's it really.
