Instinct 2 battery drain

I tried to post this as a reply to a recent post on the same topic but it would not post.

About 2 months ago I picked up a used Instinct 2. It said irt had 20 days of battery. I charged it fully and it had 36 days. I configured it and began using it. I use it a lot. Almost all features daily.

I do not get 36 days but I get 7-8 which is respectable considering the useage.

About 3 weeks ago that battery dropped to about 3 days. I hit up the forums, the Google, the AI etc. and performed all suggested actions. Disable Pulse OX, disable Bluetooth, Disable HRM (not at same time), soft reset (3x), hard rest (1x), check for updates (current), clear stuck updates (none) and I've never used custom watch faces.

I have not disabled GPS because I cannot find that option but I have set it to the least accurate and best battery option.

As of this week, it lasts about 36 hours (not days) and I've barely usedit for anything but telling time. A very light usage week.

I have not turned on Battery Saver but that is next after it charges again. IF that restores the battery to XX amount of days, what does that mean?

Big fan of the watch, the features, the options, the app etc. I suppose if I have to charge it every day it is not the end of the world but the drain seems to be growing so not sure how many days it has left.

  • Seems like the battery itself is giving out. You mentioned you picked it up used, so it might very well be that the battery is already worn down, depending on how old the watch is.

Still, try contacting Gamin support, maybe they can help you with that.

  • I have a similar problem with my 2s. Only I decided on it: if the HRM is turned on, the watch will be guaranteed to discharge from 100% to 0% in 36-48 hours. Therefore, I always keep it turned off, and I set the power plan to turn on the HRM only during training and turn it off automatically. In this mode, the watch works for 14-16 days.

  • When I disabled HRM the battery drain persisted in the same way as with it enabled. But I do like this idea of only usiong HRM in certain modes. I'll certainly give it a shot. Thanks!
