Is this the end of software development for the I2 Series?

The last update for I2 - 16.11 was half a year ago, and version 17.01, although it has minimal changes compared to 16.11, has been in beta for over 3 months.

Given this and the release of the I3, can we assume that development of the I2 Series has ended? It would be good to get a clear answer from Garmin.

Yes, and personally I can't help but feel that the broken update that left me with a one-day battery for half a year was supposed…

I've seen a few similar posts asking about a specific software release, but here I wanted to start a general discussion about the future of Instinct 2. It may sound brutal, but if Garmin decided to abandon I2 development, I'd rather know that I have to buy I3 than be in the dark. I prefer clear communication, even if the news isn't entirely satisfactory for us.

from what i read so far on user experience with the i3s, the MIP ones are basically faster and lighter i2s. In other words, i2s w/o the bugs. Hence for those who haven't got i2s, no brainer to get i3s. But for those still have the i2s, don't make sense to upgrade for bug fixes :)

AMOLED version is indeed a lot faster and smoother, MIP version slightly faster but I wouldn't call that game changing.

Yes, and personally I can't help but feel that the broken update that left me with a one-day battery for half a year was supposed to force me to buy a new watch that they released in the meantime.

I promised myself that I would not accept this approach from Garmin and until they release software that at least fixes the I2 battery issue I won't buy any Garmin watch ever again. I'm not talking about additional functionalities (as in my original post), but about eliminating the battery drain bug.

Each buyer of I2X should be warned and reconciled to the fact that the watch will not receive new features and updates only correcting errors.

I’m not even sure about that anymore (the correcting error part). Face it, we own abandonware.

I read a review by Ray the rainmaker. With so many bugs infested FW of Instinct 3, it is no wonder Garmin transfered all non-vital resources to development of I3. Our loss.
