Instinct 2 Solar Tactical - Running Activity Does Not Start

I recently started having a major issue with running activities on my Instinct 2 Solar. Whenever I start a running activity, the timer starts, but neither the pace nor distance do any sort of tracking or update. They are frozen at zero. I do not believe this is a GPS issue, as it does the same thing for treadmill runs (which don't use the GPS) as outdoor runs.

Once I stop the activity, "Discard" it, and start it again, it works fine. But this is a pretty serious system failure, as I won't have that option on race day. I want my watch to reliably and accurately track my runs. I've also tried turning my watch off and then on again, but the issue persists. And the watch and app both show that software is up-to-date.

This began maybe two weeks ago. Is it related to a faulty software update? Will the next update correct the issue, and if so, when can I anticipate the updated software to be available?

Thank you.

Victor

I am sorry to hear the distance/pace are not calculating when you start the activity. For this, I would recommend some initial troubleshooting steps.

    • Before starting the activity timer, do you see the watch acquiring GPS? It is recommended to complete a GPS soak before starting the timer. For this, select the activity, and once you see the indicator that GPS has been acquired, wait an additional 2-3 minutes before starting the timer.
    • If you have not already, I would recommend completing a hard reset. For this, hold the Control button until the watch shuts off, as opposed to selecting power off. Then power this on again.

If there is no change, I would recommend completing a factory reset, using these steps:

    1. Ensure the watch is powered off.
      • You may need to hold CONTROLfor up to 30 seconds to turn the watch off.
    2. Press and hold SET and GPS.
    3. Press CONTROL to power the watch on while holding these two buttons.
    4. After the first beep release GPS.
    5. After the second beep release the remaining button.

If this continues, I would recommend contacting Garmin Product Support.
