Coros Heart Rate Monitor connection dropouts

Since wintertime is upon us I've started to use Instinct 2x in jacket mode with Coros HRM band connected over BLE. I've been using this band with my Bosch ebike and Edge 1050 computer for months without an issue.

However Instinct 2x has about 50% chance to randomly stop receiving heart rate updates 30 minutes or so into a ride. Then it does not want to reconnect till restarted. At the same time both bike and Edge show my heart rate correctly.

This would be a non issue as my intention was to use Edge to record my rides. But as outlined in my other topic I never got sync to work in a way that has calories, intensity minutes and training load working at the same time. There's always at least one stat that is either counted wrong after sync or not counted at all.

Looking online I've found quite a few topics with similar problems with Forerunner watches. There people blamed Coros HRM but how that could be the case when literally at the same time it works with Edge 1050 and HR drops out only on the watch?

Is there anything I can do to troubleshoot this?

Unfortunately not so much. Instinct uses less power than Edge, hence it may be more sensitive to any noise signal and interferences. You can try keeping the watch as close as possible to the HRM, and staying away from devices that can cause some interference. That includes not only BT devices such as headphones, but also Wi-Fi (BT and Wi-Fi use the same 2.4 GHz band). If you keep the phone with you, then it may be worth of trying whether activating the airplane mode on it mitigates the BT dropouts.

Some time ago, some firmware versions had the option "Max BT Compatibility" in the Developer menu (accessible after pressing 8× the Light button in the menu System » About), which was increasing the BT power, but AFAIK, it is a longer time it is no more available.

Otherwise, as suggested in the other thread - if you keep the PWD (watch) off the wrist and without recording the activity, Calories and IMs will come from Edge. You will not have the all-day HR though. For that you would need to use the HRM-Pro strap. 3rd party HRMs cannot sync the all-day HR to Garmin Connect.
