Instinct crossover MTB avtivity and elevation tracking

Hey dear support and users!

Today I went for an easy ride with my son and we made 2 laps. Same route, 2 routes.

Here's the elevation chart. You can see 2 peaks, they should correspond with the exact same parts of the trail, but have about 10m in height difference. The activity tracking was using the wheel sensor and the watch gps.

Hence the question, how does elevation measurement work? I might want to ride the trail 3 times next time to get more data, but I'm confused to be honest.

    It uses a barometric altimeter, but the sensor is influenced both by the elevation, as well as by the changes of atmospheric pressure simultaneously (and by temperature in fact too). It means if the weather changes, the accuracy will be lower. You'd need to calibrate more frequently manually if you really need accurate elevation graph. The auto-calibration only works once when you start the activity.

    You can also enable elevation corrections min Garmin Connect Web, to recalculate the elevation profile from the topographic data.
